Low power in lower rpms, 96 camry 4cyl?

it ran to where i never redlined but today i got into my car and it almost stalled on take off... it used to peel out really easily... now if i push on the gas alll the way from a stand still it almost dies.. once it goes above 2500rpm it'll accelerate just as fast as it used to and actually shitf on the right points.. it used to hang at 5500rpm and not shift unless i let off the gas... now it redlines and shifts at the redline like it should with the pedal pushed to the floor.. it also sounds differetn.. it used to be loud and higher pitched... now its low pitch.. almost like its bogging.. any ideas?
