When asked by a NYT reporter if he were a Socialist?

Obama *hesitated* with his answer and then followed up the next day with a phone call to the NYT. He was attempting to make sure they had gotten his answer right. Christ, who in their right mind, when asked such a question, has to hesitate if they are NOT SOCIALIST?
