When yoghurt curdles in heat, does it mean it is spoiled?

When the recipe calls for yoghurt to be added while cooking, and it curdles and forms very tiny tofu like chunks, does it mean it is spoiled..? I am using greek yoghurt. Are there other kinds which will remain smooth instead of curdling? Don't want the tiny pieces to be seen. Thanks guys.
